CONCESSIONS BY ARMED FORCES WIVES WELFARE ASSOCIATIONS
1. Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA)
(a) Ex-Gratia Grant – A one time grant of Rs.5000/- (rupees five thousand) is being given as ex-gratia grant to the NOK of a deceased soldiers by AWWA who die in harness. This is given to fulfill the immediate monetary requirement upto some extent till NOK’s other entitlements are settled.
(b) Educational Scholarship – This scholarship is given upto two children of those Army personnel who die while in service. The child must be between 10 to 20 years of age and not in receipt of scholarship from other sources except meritorious scholarship. The following uniform rates have been laid for all ranks :-
(i) College Students - Rs.200/- per month
(ii) Students studying in class - Rs.100/- per month IX, X, XI, XII
(iii) Students between classes - Rs.50/- per month V to VIII
(c) Financial Assistance/Scholarship for Handicapped Children – This assistance from AWWA is admissible to the handicapped children of serving JCO’s and OR’s who are not in receipt of any monetary help from any other source for treatment/education of their wards. The rates of assistance/scholarships vary depending upon the merits of each case from Rs.100/- to a maximum of Rs.200/- per month for two years. After two years the case can be reviewed on receipted of a fresh application.

2. Navy Wives Welfare Association (NWWA) The Navy Wives Welfare Association is a voluntary organization. The assistance details are as under:-
(a) Educational Scholarship to children of deceased Naval Personnel.
(b) Financial Assistance to widows and other needy wives of Ex-servicemen for resettlement – on merit.

3. AIR FORCE WIVES WELFARE ASSOCIATION (AFWWA) The details of schemes are enumerated as under:-
(a) Ex-Gratia Payment for Widow’s Rehabilitation
Ex-gratia payment of death grant of Rs.5,000/- for rehabilitation of widows is paid to the member on demise of her husband. In case of death while in service the grant is paid to the member in grief by the last unit, which is reimbursed by AFWWA(C). For the wives whose husbands die after retirement this grant is paid by AFWWA(C) on receipt of an application alongwith death certificate and photocopy of the membership card.
(b) AFWWA Pension
An amount of Rs.500/- p.m. for four months (Rs.2,000/- lump sum) is paid as AFWWA Pension to the widow who is a member of AFWWA and whose husband dies while in service by last unit alongwith ex-gratia payment which is reimbursed by AFWWA(C).
(c) Wedding Grant
An amount of Rs.5,000/- is given as a grant to one child, on her/his marriage, of the widow who is a member of AFWWA and whose husband dies while in service after May 1987 on receipt of application by AFWWA(C) alongwith the Wedding Card and certificate from the Registrar of Marriage/Village Panchayat. In case if it is not feasible to get the certificate from the Registrar/Panchayat, the application may be authenticated by an Air Force Officer.
(d) Rehabilitation of Widows of NC(E)
Widows of those NCs(E) who die while in service after 01 Jan 91 and intend to resettle themselves by tailoring/stitching etc. are eligible for resettlement grant of Rs.2000/- with an option to spend the money by the recipient. President AFWWA(L) should ensure that the money is appropriately spend and goes to the correct person. The grant is paid to AFWWA Members by the last unit, which is reimbursed by AFWWA(C).
(e) Medical Assistance
AFWWA members whose husband is boarded out on medical grounds not attributable to service is given an one time grant of Rs.5,000/- to be paid by the last unit of her husband. The amount then reimbursed to AFWWA(L) by AFWWA(C).
(f) Dwelling unit of Widows
Housing subsidy of Rs.1.5 lacs for widow of Officer and Rs.1 lac for widow of Airman/NC(E) are provided from Non-Public Funds for acquiring the Dwelling Unit constructed by AFNHB. Air Force personnel killed in accident while in service from 01 Jan 96 onwards are eligible. Subsidized Dwelling Unit cannot be sold for 15 years. AFWWA pays 10% of subsidy. The application should be addressed to Secretary AFGIS, Subroto Park, New Delhi-10.
(g) Educational Scholarship
Financial assistance by way of scholarship is granted to one child of the widow and handicapped children of serving officers, Airmen and NCs(E) who are not in receipt of any other scholarship/freeship. The application on prescribed form attached as Appendix ‘A’ duly recommended by the School/College authorities is to be submitted to AFWWA(C) for the award of scholarship. The rates of the scholarships are as follows:
a) School going day scholars Rs.100/-p.m.
b) School going boarders Rs.200/-p.m.
c) College going day scholars & Boarders Rs.200/-p.m.
d) For Medical & Engineering Courses Rs.400/-p.m.
(h) Scholarship for Professional/Technical Courses
Sixty children of serving Officers, Airmen and NCs(E) who are not in receipt of any other scholarship and have attained certain standards are given financial assistance of Rs.4800/-p.a. for continuing Engineering and Medical courses. The application on prescribed form is to be submitted to AFWWA(C) through AFWWA(R) latest by 31st October every year. Twelve scholarships are reserved for children of Air Force Officers. The eligibility conditions are as follows:
a) Mother of the child should be an AFWWA member.
b) The child should have secured 75% and above marks in the qualifying exam for admission to the course.
c) The scholarship will be discontinued if the child secures less than 60% marks in the annual examination of the professional course or on cessation of membership of the mother.
(j) Educational Scholarship for children of NCs(E)
AFWWA(C) awards 50 scholarships every year @ Rs.50/- p.m. per child for the children of serving NCs(E). The application on prescribed form is to be submitted to AFWWA(C) through AFWWA(R) latest by 30th September every year. The eligibility conditions for the award of scholarship are as follows:
(i) Mother of the child should be an AFWWA member.
(ii) The child should be studying in a class above Vth Std and upto XIIth Std only.
(iii) The child should be studying in a recognized school or an Air Force School.
(iv) Only one child per family is eligible
(v) The student should not be receipt of any other scholarship/freeship from any other Welfare Organization/Institution.
(vi) The scholarship is admissible for 3 years.
(vii) The student who was in receipt of scholarship for 3 years cannot be awarded scholarship for 2nd time during his schooling period.
(k) AFWWA Silver Jubilee Scholarship
Scholarship F@ Rs.1200/- per annum for two yeas are given to the children of AFWWA members who attained certain standards and scored 85% marks and above in the CBSE and 95% marks and above in the ICSE Board examination of class Xth std.
The application is to be submitted to AFWWA (C) through AFWWA(R) latest by 30th September every year.
(l) Scholarship for children of Airmen under-going Post School Education at Delhi & Residing in AFWWA Hostel (Happy Landings)
Children of Airmen who are doing a Degree Course at Delhi and residing in AFWWA Hostel (Happy Landings) are entitled to 50% reimbursement of the Hostel Fees to subsidies Hostel charges subject to a maximum of Rs.950/- for 10 months i.e. Rs.9,500/- per annum. The application is to be submitted to AFWWA (C) through Hostel Warden by 30th September every year.
(m) Scholarship for Vocational Training
Scholarship of Rs.2,400/- (lump sum) as one time grant is awarded to widows of Air Force personnel undergoing Vocational Training in a Recognized Institute (Diploma/Certificate course of not less than six months). The widow should be an AFWWA member. The application should be forwarded alongwith proof f admission in the institute.
(n) Canberra Scholarship
Two scholarships @ Rs.3000/- p.a. are awarded to two children of Airmen/NCCs(E) serving in Canberra Unit. The eligibility conditions are as follows:
(a) Mother of the child should be an AFWWA Member.
(b) The child should be studying in Std.XI or XII
(c) The scholarship is awarded based on merit.
(d) CO, 106 SR Sqn. AF(the lone Canberra Squadron) is to recommend two names of deserving children and forward the same to AFWWA (C) in the month of August every year.
(p) Late Air Chief Marshal PC Lal Memorial Scholarship
One scholarship of Rs.1000/- (lump sum) as one time grant is awarded to a Disables student, ward of a serving AF personnel. The application is to be submitted to AFWWA (R) latest by 30th September every year. The eligibility conditions are as follows:
(a) Mother of the child should be an AFWWA member.
(b) The student should have passed XII std and obtained admission for graduation in a recognised college.
(q) Late Flt Lt MS Sarin Memorial Scholarship
Two scholarships @ Rs.1200/- p.a. awarded to two handicapped children (one boy and one girl) of airmen who are studying in Special Wing of AFGJI, Delhi. The period of scholarship is one year. The names selected by AFGJI should reach AFWWA(C) by 30th September every year.
(r) Late Wg Cdr AS Puranik Memorial Scholarship
One scholarship of Rs.2500/- per annum is awarded at a time to a student of standard ix onwards till completion of studies. The ward should be a child of a serving Airman/NC(E). The application is to be submitted to AFWWA © through AFWWA(R) latest by 31st August. The eligibility conditions are as follows:
(a) Mother should be an AFWWA Member.
(b) The student should have passed VIII standard and scored 95% marks and above.
(c) The scholarship will be discontinued, if the child secures less than 70% marks in the annual examination during the course of studies.
(s) Procedure/Allotment of Oil Product Agencies to Defence Personnel and their Dependents
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas have reserved 8% of oil product agencies i.e. LPG, Kerosene Oil agencies and Petrol Pump for the following categories of Defence Personnel and under the new policy, the Govt has also made a reservation of 30% for ladies in all categories.
(i) Categories
(a) Widows/dependents of posthumous Gallantry Award winner
(b) War Disabled (Disability 50% or more)
(c) War widows/dependents
(d) Disabled in peace due to attributable causes
(e) Widows/dependents of those who died in harness due to attributable causes
The applicants should be withinthe age group of 21 to 50 years, matriculate or its equivalent and normally should be residents of the area for which the vacancy has been advertised
